Artist League’s mission is to unite artists from around the globe to offer their unique skills and craft to form teams to serve rescue and recovery efforts domestic and abroad. Teams of artisan/craftsmen; architects, designers and artrepreneurs work in tandem with NGO’s and philanthropic organizations to provide both big picture strategic and tool smart boots on the ground to build shelter, aesthetics and interactive learning experiences for displaced people trapped in extreme circumstances.
Donating food, water and bare essentials like cloths, shelter and medicine are just one part of the efforts to provide relief during disaster. When you consider the role of an Army Corps of Engineers for example you see a special skillset in terms of strategic and tactical proficiency. Artists for a long time have benefited from the institutions that have supported them with grants and infrastructure support through both the arts organizations and government programs for the arts. Visual artists especially have a unique opportunity to raise themselves to a new status and change the paradigm. The Artist’s Giving Pledge presents such an opportunity. Imagine a team of artists building all day and playing music and doing plays at night bringing not just the basics but a quality of life to the equation with artful purpose as inspiration.
